Driving Modes in the 2025 Audi A4 Allroad Explained

Overview

If a station wagon wants to compete in today’s SUV market, then it needs to embrace SUV-like décor. Hence Audi’s choice to emphasize on the more off-road-oriented A4 Allroad wagon rather than the conventional-looking basic variant. Like the Subaru Outback, the Allroad stands higher than a typical station wagon and has more aggressive off-road-looking external ornamentation. Don’t intend to venture too far from civilization, though, because this Audi is a conventional station wagon at heart. The A4 Allroad's extra ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive make it excellent for frolicking down rutted country roads but its natural home is still on tarmac. In typical on-tarmac driving, the A4 Allroad shines, as its wagon origins and torque-rich turbocharged four-cylinder engine make this Audi a lively companion on winding two lanes. It's magnificent inside, too. Despite its body design, the A4 Allroad lacks the spaciousness of other similarly sized and priced competitors such as the Volvo V60 Cross Country. Still, the A4 Allroad is a more useful tool than its A4 sedan stablemate—even if only ever so slightly. This increased adaptability comes at a literal cost, though, and the A4 Allroad plates for $3500 more than a comparably equipped A4 sedan.

What's New for 2025?

Turns out the infotainment system is a lousy location to hide a vehicle’s Homelink controls. For 2025, Audi changes course and inserts physical Homelink controls into the rearview mirror of the 2025 A4 Allroad. Otherwise, the A4 Allroad goes over essentially intact, save for some slight content tweaks to trims and packages.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The pricing of the 2025 Audi A4 Allroad Quattro starts at $48,895 and goes up to $57,095 depending on the specification and options.

We propose the mid-range Premium Plus trim. It's slightly higher than the base Premium model and has standard luxuries like as a digital gauge cluster, keyless entry with push-button start, a wireless smartphone charging pad, power-folding external side mirrors, and a memory seat for the driver.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

We hope you enjoy the sound of Audi’s 261-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four since that’s the only engine offered in the A4 Allroad. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive are standard. Though we’ve yet to drive an A4 Allroad with this specific iteration of the brand’s turbo-four and all-wheel-drive system, our experience behind the wheel of A4 Allroads with earlier variants of this powertrain combination proved plenty quick, and the self-shifting gearbox impressed us with its smooth and responsive nature. Though its lateral handling fall a touch short of its sedan brother, the A4 Allroad is nevertheless a delight to meander around in. Credit a smooth ride and relatively dynamic handling. We may long for the reintroduction of the A4 Avant, with its standard-height stance and charmingly traditional lines but the A4 Allroad is a good consolation prize.

0-60-MPH Times

We’ve yet to test an A4 Allroad with the 261-hp turbo four. A 2017 A4 Allroad equipped by a 252-hp turbo four-cylinder engine, however, touched 60 mph in a relatively fast 5.2 seconds. We predict the somewhat more powerful 2025 Allroad has the goods to at least match—if not better—that time.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA thinks the A4 Allroad achieves 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the interstate, and we expect the 2025 model to keep similar values. However, we can't evaluate this Audi’s real-world mpg until we drive one on our 75-mph highway fuel efficiency route, which is part of our rigorous testing process. For more information about the A4 Allroad's fuel efficiency, see the EPA's website. You may also read this: 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL63 SE Performance

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The A4 Allroad has a stylish, businesslike interior, which we would like considerably better if we hadn't seen the art piece that is the Volvo V60's cabin. It may not be gorgeous, but the A4 Allroad's insides are fully practical, handsome, neatly fitted, and comfy. Standard luxuries include leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, and three-zone automatic temperature control. The A4 Allroad lost the carry-on baggage test before we even got our suitcases out, though. It's smaller inside and out than the essentially comparable Subaru Outback. More confusing is that it barely beat the sedan version of the A4 in seats-up load-carrying space, despite its purported 11-cubic-foot advantage in cargo volume; it fit just six carry-ons behind the rear seat, only one more than the A4 sedan.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard across the board. While lower-level A4 Allroads boast a 7.0-inch LCD between its analog gauges, higher-end ones sub in a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. As with other Audis, the A4 Allroad boasts a gorgeous user interface that suffers from a relatively clumsy user experience. Fortunately, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also on the basic features list.
