11 Electric Cars With The Biggest Batteries

A car's battery size is an important factor, partly because it determines the price of the vehicle (the battery is currently the most expensive part of any vehicle) and partly because it affects factors such as weight, aerodynamics, systems efficiency, and travel distance. The vehicles with the largest useable battery capacity are listed here (as opposed to total). All of them are currently available for purchase or will be in the near future. In cases when a car has several models, we have only highlighted one.

Mercedes-Benz EQE - 89kWh

It's remarkable that our countdown should begin with a semi-regular (if roomy) family saloon, demonstrating that the largest batteries are beginning to be offered on some of the most popular vehicles. Although its range is listed for up to 388 miles, you'll probably need to stop for a refill well before that happens.

Nio ET5 - 90kWh

Nio ET5 - 90kWh

This Chinese company's electric saloon has the Tesla Model 3 squarely in its sights. Geek enthusiasts will love to hear that it has a range of up to 435 miles, but even more impressive is the fact that its 1.28 square meter, all-glass roof blocks 99.9% of the sun's damaging UV radiation.

Nio EL7 - 90kWh

In China, Nio's electric SUV is known as the ES7; however, when it was introduced to the European market, Audi objected to the company's choice of name, thus the vehicle was renamed the EL7. The EL7 is available for purchase in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. It may be purchased with a 75kWh or 100kWh battery, the latter of which has a range of up to 319 miles and a useable capacity of 90kWh.

Mercedes EQE SUV - 91kWh

Arriving last year, Mercedes' eighth electric vehicle is aimed at competing with the likes of the Tesla Model X and BMW iX3. Utilizing a huge 91kWh battery, the bulbous electric SUV is powered by the German brand's own EVA electric architecture. There is an AMG version among the three available variants.

Xpeng G9 - 94kWh

With a nickel-rich battery chemistry that differs from the ordinary car's, the Long Range variant achieves an astounding range of 354 miles. Rear-drive vehicles achieve 0-62 mph in 6.4 seconds, while with all-wheel drive, it can reach 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

Polestar 4 - 94kWh

Polestar 4 - 94kWh

When Polestar unveiled their third custom electric vehicle last year, it attracted attention for a number of reasons. Its most distinctive characteristic is that it doesn't have a rear window, which has enabled the Swedish brand produce an external style that is more rakish.  The new challenger to the Tesla Model Y, which is positioned below the Polestar 3 SUV in the brand's lineup, claims a range of up to 379 miles because to its big battery.

Audi Q6 E-tron - 94kWh

Driven by Porsche and built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, the Q6 e-tron is a technologically advanced SUV that is ready to compete with the next BMW iX3 and Jaguar I-Pace. A huge 100kWh (95kWh useable) battery pack with a stated range of 388 miles provides the power.

Porsche Macan EV - 95kWh

Having read about Audi's new PPE platform, it should come as no surprise that the daring Porsche Macan EV employs the same battery and electric design.  The second customized electric vehicle from the Stuttgart-based company is available in two configurations. The top-of-the-line Turbo model has 630 horsepower and 833 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to reach 60 mph in only 4.4 seconds.

Maserati Grecale Folgore - 95kWh

A lot is riding on the SUV shoulders of the Grecale: it has to become the company's best-selling model in order to counterbalance the sportier models like the Granturismo and MC20. It also serves as a showcase for the brand's transition to electric power and its future as an electric-only brand. The powerful SUV can go up to 311 miles on a single charge and produces 550 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque.

Tesla Model S - 95kWh

Tesla Model S - 95kWh

More so than the Roadster, this vehicle is arguably what first made Tesla famous. It faced and defeated the industry leader, proving to the world that high-end luxury consumers were open to investing in electric propulsion if the brand lived up to the expectations.  Although its 405-mile range is rather remarkable, the Plaid variant is the one grabbing attention. With 1020 horsepower, it can reach 60 mph in under 1.99 seconds. Bonkers.

Porsche Taycan - 97kWh

Even while it was amazing to drive, the previous model Taycan was not very efficient and had a short range.  With the new Battery Performance Plus model, which has a bigger 105kWh (97kWh useable) battery and offers a range of up to 421 miles, Porsche has attempted to address these issues.
